A build is not done when the crew leaves. Dust, trash, tape, and marks may still be there. The space must be clean before it can open. A clear cleaning list helps make that happen.
Here is a simple post-construction cleaning checklist for a commercial building.

1. Pick Up Trash
Start with large trash and loose debris. Pick up boxes, plastic, wood, tape, and scraps. Check each room, hall, closet, and work area. This makes the rest of the job safer and faster.
2. Remove Dust
Dust can land on almost every surface. Wipe walls, doors, shelves, ledges, and cabinets. Check vents, lights, pipes, and high spots too. Do not forget corners or the tops of doors.
3. Clean Windows and Glass
Clean all glass and window areas. Remove dust, tape, labels, and hand marks. Wipe glass doors and frames too. Clean glass helps the new space look bright.
4. Clean the Floors
Sweep or vacuum each floor first. Then clean the floor based on its type. Hard floors may need a mop or floor scrub. Carpet may need a deep vacuum or wash. Check all edges and corners for dust.
5. Clean Restrooms
Clean toilets, sinks, mirrors, counters, and floors. Wipe walls and stall doors too. Remove dust, tape, and labels left from the build. Add soap and paper goods if needed.
6. Clean Break Rooms
Wipe sinks, counters, cabinets, and tables. Clean the front of each unit and machine. Check inside drawers and cabinets for dust. Sweep and mop the floor. Take out all trash.
7. Clean Doors and Small Details
Wipe doors, handles, switches, and baseboards. Clean signs and other small parts. Remove tape, glue, and stickers when safe. Small marks can make a new space look dirty.
8. Check High and Low Areas
Look up and down before the job ends. Dust can sit on lights, vents, beams, and pipes. It can also hide under sinks and in corners. These spots are easy to miss.
9. Do a Final Walk
Walk the full site when cleaning is done. Look for dust, streaks, trash, or marks. Check each room one more time. Fix any missed spots before the handoff.
Why Use a Cleaning Checklist?
A list helps the crew stay on track. It also helps the site team know what is done. This can cut down on missed work and last-minute stress. A clean site is easier to turn over to the client.
